Is there anything nicer than the smell and taste of freshly baked food served straight from the oven? It just conjures up all the “feel good” emotions. Whether it’s the family dinner table or a social gathering, bread is the common denominator for a lot of fun times. It’s a life enhancer. Just seeing the joy on people’s face when they hold a warm loaf or bite into our flavoursome food is what inspires us.

dna-1Passion and love (no, this is not a Mills and Boon novel)

“What was the best thing before sliced bread?”- George Carlin

Bread is much, much more than a meal accompaniment. It is far more than the two “bookends” that hold up all those fabulous ingredients. We see bread as a way of life, a dining table staple that has served mankind for thousands of years. Nothing stands the test of that period of time without having real and intrinsic value. For us, seeing what comes out of the oven is what makes getting up at ungodly hours so worthwhile. We love it. When you do something you love, it’s never that hard to do. Kinda like raising children (in a weird and wonderful way). For instance, our “starter” is constantly refreshed and has been nurtured for over 20 years. Our sourdough, in turn, is very sensitive to time, heat, humidity and hand work and requires constant attention and patience in order to produce the perfect loaf.

So many choices – so little time!

“Man cannot live on bread alone”

We’re more than just beautiful artisan bread. That’s what makes us different to others. We produce so many varieties of sweet and savoury baked products such as pasties (pies), savoury rolls, croissants, shortbread slices, muffins, cakes, schiacciata, brioche tarts and muesli, to name a few. Not one for resting on our laurels, we plan to roll out some really cool stuff in the near future, so stay in touch with us via social media to find out the latest.

Furthermore, we have a wide range of food that suits people with all kinds of dietary requirements. Whether you have an allergy or intolerance to ingredients such as gluten, wheat, dairy, nut, sugar, yeast or anything else for that matter, we are most likely to have products that meet your needs.

Quality

“Qudna-2ality means doing it right, when no one is looking”- Henry Ford

Quality is our overriding philosophy. It is embedded in absolutely every aspect of our business. From the people that work with us, to the best handpicked ingredients sourced locally, to the very processes that drive our production, every link in the chain must be of the utmost standard. It’s the one thing we will never compromise. How else can we expect to produce the best quality food consistently?

Our quality is constantly reviewed and modified to meet changes in our environment. We are continuously looking for better ways to do things – whether it’s creating new recipes, improving existing ones, finding better and safer processes, recruiting great people, providing better services, it’s all in the name of quality – so you can be assured what you’re feeding your family is of the highest integrity.

Service with a laugh

“I believe that laughter is the best calorie burner” – Audrey Hepburn

It really doesn’t cost anything to smile. Nor does it hurt. Nor should its value be understated. It’s the simplest and most meaningful gesture we can offer to our people. More than just a mere smile, some of our staff have the loudest, quirkiest and funniest laughs imaginable!

It’s part of our culture really – we tend to find the humour in just about any situation. We don’t mind the occasional yarn, either. We’re more than merely servicing our customers, we enjoy getting to know them.  Once you’re a regular, chances are we’ll have your favourite order ready to pick up as you reach the counter in our bakeries.

Listen n learn

dna-3“The word LISTEN contains the same letters as the word SILENT” – Alfred Brendel

One of the most significant turning points in our business occurred in 2003 when we started participating in Farmers and Growers markets. The markets business, which we continue to do today, has allowed us to take heed of our customers and respond to their needs. For instance, we developed our gluten free range as a direct result of listening to customer requests.

The Farmers markets also showed us how important it was for customers to connect directly with the farmer or producer.

Value for money

“Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back”- Oscar Wilde

There doesn’t always have to be a direct correlation between quality and price. You can make perfectly good food without charging the earth for it. Buying our ingredients from the farmer as well as continually improving our production processes enables us to provide premium quality food at reasonable prices.
