We like to celebrate Easter each year by coming up with a new, limited edition Hot Cross Bun to sit alongside our Traditional Hot Cross Buns (in our humble opinion, Sydney’s best) and this year, we’ve gone all out with our deluxe Salted Caramel Hot Cross Bun.
Our traditional spiced hot cross bun dough is liberally studded with hand-salted chunks of fudge and jumbo raisins, before being shaped into generous buns, piped with a caramel cross and lacquered with syrup.
They’re then baked to golden, fluffy perfection before being shipped off to our cafes and stalls for sale the very same day. The caramel cross on top crisps up in the oven and creates a beautiful crunch to offset the softness of the bun.
While absolutely delicious served at room temperature, if you can serve them hot – either fresh from the oven, toasted at a café or warmed through in the microwave – the fudgey chunks ooze from the buns making them twice as irresistible.
Sliced and buttered generously, the caramel and butter melt into each other creating a sticky, delicious treat. And sticky, delicious fingers to lick… mmmmmm.
If you’re feeling especially naughty, serve with a slather of nutella or with vanilla mascarpone.
